For the first time since the State Championship team of 1993, the Lady Savages make the Class 4A State Championships. After winning only 4 games last season, the ladies armed with a new coach and a new attitude finish the season with 20 wins and 5 losses. Three of the losses occurred while a starter was sidelined with an injury.
The season highlights include qualifying for the finals of the Bethany/SNU Tournament with the finals being iced out. They defeated Dale to win the Pottawatomie County Tournament with freshman Mandy Makeever named tournament MVP.
The playoffs started with Tecumseh beating Cushing to win the District Title. In the first round of regionals, they defeated Peidmont and then defeated Kelleyville to win the Regional Title. Needing only one win to qualify for state, the ladies lost a 4 point game to Tulsa Metro Christian. This forced a win or go home game against Kelleyville that the Lady Savages won by double figures for the Area Consolation Title.
The first round opponent in the state tournament was Cache. The Lady Savages lost a hard fought defensive struggle by 10 points. With only graduating starters of Tiffany Fowler, Mercedes Sisco, and reserve Natasha Dugan, the expectations for next year are to return to the state tournament with better results.
